ABOUT
Protecting Wild Spaces
Protecting and restoring wild spaces for parrots is essential, as they rely on specific environmental conditions for feeding and nesting. Human activities such as deforestation, urbanisation and agriculture have destroyed and fragmented these areas, threatening parrot populations with extinction. By protecting and rehabilitating their forests, we support parrots and preserve the rich biodiversity of their ecosystems.
Identifying Key Habitat
Identifying ecosystems that are important for parrot survival. This involves using science to understand where parrots breed, feed and roost by using advanced technologies like satellite tracking and GIS (Geographic Information Systems).
Restoring and Protecting Habitat
Carrying out reforestation and restoration projects using native trees and plants, restoring natural water courses and reintegrating keystone species. These efforts are critical in areas where deforestation has drastically reduced available habitat.
Providing Ongoing Protection
Ongoing monitoring of parrots, protected areas and habitats to ensure effective conservation. This includes regular surveys, habitat quality assessments, and monitoring illegal logging or poaching. Data collected from these activities help to inform conservation strategies.
Establishing Protected Areas
Establishing protected areas like nature reserves, national parks or other types of conservation zones. In creating these areas, the focus is on controlling invasive plant species and preserving or restoring natural vegetation.
Encouraging Sustainable Use
Engaging with local communities and organisations to promote sustainable land-use practices that benefit people and parrots. Long-term efforts include sustainable agriculture, eco-tourism and community-led conservation initiatives.
Working With Partners
Collaborating with a wide range of partners, including other conservation NGOs, government agencies, research institutions, and local communities. These partnerships are important for pooling resources, sharing expertise and ensuring a united front in parrot conservation efforts.
Engaging in habitat conservation and restoration strategies is essential to ensuring that these vibrant birds and their ecosystems survive. Efforts contribute to the fight against climate change, protect water resources, and sustain local communities. Please become a partner in our work for parrots and their wild spaces.
